The Significance of Gentleness and Forbearance in Educational Methodologies from an Islamic Perspective

This study examines the significance of rifq (gentleness) and lin (forbearance) in educational methodologies from an Islamic perspective. The primary objective of this research is to elucidate the status and virtue of rifq and its role in the teaching process by drawing upon Islamic texts. Furthermore, the study explores the positive effects of kindness and compassion in education, particularly in shaping students’ moral and intellectual development. The research seeks to address key questions, including the religious significance of rifq in educational contexts, the benefits of incorporating gentleness in pedagogy, and the detrimental consequences of harshness and rigidity in learning environments. This study employs a rigorous methodological approach, relying on authentic sources and adhering to established academic standards in citation and analysis. The findings indicate that rifq and lin are not only fundamental ethical values in Islam but also acts of worship when practiced in accordance with Islamic teachings. Moreover, the application of gentleness, kindness, and forbearance in teaching reinforces the educator’s credibility, fosters the holistic development of students, and significantly reduces tendencies toward violence, resentment, and hostility.
