Implementation of HCI Courses in Indonesia Context
This paper aims at exploring the existing conditions of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) education in Indonesian universities and the possible improvement. The questionnaires were administered on fifty purposively selected lecturers to reveal that, and the data shows ninety percent of universities offer only a single HCI course which is often offered between two until four credits. Nevertheless, there is a strong focus of universities on design of user interface and usability testing over User Experience (UX) research. And pertaining to the class size of 30 until 50 students, the need for more compact and hands-on method of learning was pointed out in the study. Some suggestions are increase the number of courses in HCI, introduce more concentrations or minors’ program specific in UX, and apply real case study and project-based approach. And the universities need to increasing lecturer qualification and introducing the use of games or gamification and more tools in teaching that can add to the process of motivation and learning. These studies serve as a basis to build up a better and realistic HCI courses implementation in Indonesia.
