Capturability Analysis of the Composite Pursuit Guidance Law
This paper proposes a composite pursuit guidance (CPG) law that integrates pure pursuit guidance (PG) with pure proportional navigation guidance (PPNG) to overcome the limitations of conventional PPNG. The proposed CPG law demonstrates effectiveness against targets maneuvering arbitrarily with time-varying acceleration. The capturability of the CPG law is rigorously analyzed, and it is shown that the capture region encompasses the entire engagement area, even for targets with unpredictable maneuvers. To validate the theoretical analysis and evaluate the CPG performance, we conduct various numerical simulations accounting for first-order lag of missile dynamics. The results show that CPG provides competitive performance relative to PPNG, particularly against targets performing high-G barrel roll maneuvers, a well-known aircraft evasive tactic.
