Interactive Learning Tool: Demonstrating the Blum Blum Shub Number Generator Using MS Excel
This paper presents the development of an interactive MS Excel application designed to illustrate the principles of the Blum Blum Shub (BBS) random number generator. Aimed at enhancing student engagement and understanding in computational mathematics and cryptography courses, the application allows users to visualize the generation of pseudorandom numbers through the BBS algorithm. By leveraging MS Excel's user-friendly interface and built-in functions, students can modify parameters such as seed values and modulus, observing the immediate impact on the output sequence. The application incorporates graphical representations to aid comprehension of the underlying concepts, making the learning experience both educational and enjoyable. Through this innovative approach, we aim to foster greater interest in cryptographic methodologies and equip students with practical skills in data manipulation and visualization within MS Excel. This paper also discusses the feedback received from students using the tool, emphasizing its effectiveness as a supplementary teaching resource.
