IoT-Driven Weather Station for Comprehensive Data Collection

This technical paper focuses on the development of a mobile weather station that is easy to replicate with minimal costs. The current version of the station measures temperature, humidity, and precipitation, with the collected data being stored locally. The motivation for the project stems from the fact that the Zagreb area currently has only four weather stations, which, although technologically advanced, are limited in spatial coverage. By utilizing affordable microcontrollers, sensors, and 3D additive technologies, it is possible to produce a larger number of localized stations. Their distribution across Zagreb would enable more detailed measurements, contributing to more accurate weather forecasts, early warning systems, and scientific models. The current research focus is on the prototype station and the comparison of its data with those from reference meteorological stations. Future development aims to enhance system autonomy by integrating solar panels and batteries, eliminating dependence on local Wi-Fi networks, and creating infrastructure for data transmission to a central server from a network of stations distributed throughout the city.
