Results of morphometry of the reserve space in the thoracolumbar spine in dogs
The studies were conducted in 2024 at the Department of Veterinary Surgery of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology – MVA named after K. I. Skryabin in order to perform morphometry of the reserve space of the thoracolumbar spine in dogs of chondrodystrophic and chondrodystrophy- non-prone breeds and to identify a correlation between the parameters of the reserve space and the incidence of intervertebral disc extrusions (hereinafter referred to as EVD). The object of the study was 200 clinically ill dogs with EVD in the thoracolumbar spine, including 150 dogs of chondrodystrophic breeds and 50 dogs of breeds not prone to chondrodystrophy. The morphometric parameters of the reserve space of the spinal canal were determined using magnetic resonance imaging of the thoracolumbar spine. The values of the morphometric parameters of the reserve space of the spinal canal were calculated in each spinal motor segment of the thoracolumbar spine. Based on the results of morphometry of the reserve space in dogs, it was revealed that the frequency of recording EMPD in the thoracolumbar region is inversely related to the morphometric parameters of the reserve space of the spinal canal.
