Therapeutic Utility of Jālandhara Bandha as an Adjunctive Technique in Minor Oral Surgery: A Case Study on Tooth Extraction Without Local Anaesthesia
Jālandhara Bandha, a classical neuro-muscular lock from Haṭha Yoga, modulates autonomic function and controls Vāyu. This case study evaluates its efficacy as a non-pharmacological analgesic in dental surgery. A 62-year-old female with anxiety and labile hypertension underwent extraction of the lower right lateral incisor (tooth 26) without local anesthesia, relying solely on pre-trained prāṇāyāma and Jālandhara Bandha. Seated in Sukhasana, the patient maintained the bandha throughout the procedure. Remarkably, she reported minimal pain, exhibited cardiovascular stability, and cooperated fully. The findings suggest Jālandhara Bandha may serve as a viable adjunct in minor surgeries, particularly for high-risk patients.
