Determinants of the Difference in Perception of the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem by Freelancers: Evidence from the Cameroonian and Belgian Gig Economies

The objective of this article was to identify the determinants of the difference in perception of the entrepreneurial ecosystem by the gig workers in Cameroon and the Belgium. The hypothesis derived from this objective is that “stakeholders explain the difference inperception of the entrepreneurial ecosystem by Cameroonian and Belgian gig workers”. To verify this hypothesis, we had to go through the existing literature which helped us summarize the elements of the entrepreneurial ecosystem into nine components. After identifying the actors of the EE, a quantitative methodological approach was put in place. A questionnaire was administered online with Google Form. The data collected were analyzed with the Stata software, since this is the most suitable tool to bind samples as we had two samples: one from Belgium and the other from Cameroon. After verifying our hypothesis, we discovered that the perception of platforms, universities and family members, as components of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, significantly differs from Cameroonian and Belgian gig workers. This is explained by the fact that digital platforms are richer in Belgium than in Cameroon in terms of opportunities and quality of online jobs. The universities play a major role as incubators in Belgium than in Cameroon. While family members are of great importance to Cameroonian freelancers
