Estetyka pejzaży Witkacego
The article discusses the aesthetics of Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz’s landscapes, which, according to the author, were inspired by other artists (Leon Wyczółkowski, Jan Stanisławski, Ferdynand Ruszczyc, Julian Fałat, Władysław Ślewiński), the literary and painting work of his father (Stanisław Witkiewicz), his places of permanent and temporary residence (Zakopane, Syłgudyszki, Lovran), his travels (Russia, Australia, Brittany), as well as technological developments (photography). The scholarly research of Witkacy’s painting, such as proposed by Anna Żakiewicz and Wojciech Sztaba, and that of landscape aesthetics (proposed by Beata Frydryczak), there are three distinguished types of landscapes in Witkacy’s work: painterly, photographic and literary. Analysis and interpretation of selected landscapes indicate that each of these types, due to their execution, constitutes a separate image, but they can complement each other thematically. According to the author, Witkacy’s meteorological landscapes (painterly, photographic and literary) allow him to capture the changes and moments of stillness in the observed reality. Trough aesthetics of mirage Witkacy depicts the world in all its elusive fluidity (forest lake, mountain stream), through mist he shows phosphorescent and fleeting shapes (veils of mist, wandering clouds), while freezing allows him to demonstrate the immutability of the natural world.
