Design Methods and Seismic Resilience Assessment of Shear Wall Structures With Stiffness‐Enhanced Energy‐Dissipating Coupling Beams
ABSTRACT This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the energy dissipation characteristics of a newly proposed stiffness‐enhanced metallic damper. A comparative evaluation with existing pseudo‐static test results was conducted, leading to the development of a refined restoring force model for the damper. To achieve the performance objectives of functionally recoverable structures, a four‐level seismic defense strategy is introduced, along with a novel design approach for double‐stage stiffness‐enhanced metallic dampers integrated into shear wall systems. Finite element models of three shear wall structures were developed, and a seismic time history analysis was performed to assess critical indicators such as interstory displacement angles, residual displacements, energy dissipation ratios, and interstory shear forces across different structural configurations. This paper highlights the significant impact of incorporating stiffness‐enhanced dampers on the seismic resilience and post‐earthquake recoverability of buildings.
