Museum and School: An educational program based on the museum kit “Im…pressing Tériade”

Main inspiration for this educational program was the publishing activity of Stratis Eleftheriades-Tériade. His publications, “Verve” magazine and “The Big Books”, which comprise the basic collection of Tériade Museum in Vareia Mytilene, Lesvos, deviate from the traditional practices of book creation and belong to the category of “visual books”. Main target of this educational action was the strengthening of the relationship between child and book and the elevation of the latter to an object of symbolic expression and creation through an educational intervention which, in the teaching process, brings together the discipline of arts with museopaedagogical practices. The program was designed and materialized within the frame of meetings of the club “Book+Art: The book differently” at 1st Experimental Primary School of Thessaloniki. Relevant actions were based on the use of the original museum kit “Im…pressing Tériade” which was designed on the basis of a museopaedagogical essay, was redefined following formative evaluation, was constructed through funding by the Ioannis S. Latsis Foundation and is going to be donated to Tériade Museum.
