Examination of School Drop out in Schools of Giannitsa

In this paper, we have tried to present the actual dropout rate of the High Schools of Giannitsa. At the same time, we attempt to record any action that has been achieved as well as to identify new ones that could lead in the dropout reduction. Qualitative analysis was used for the elaboration of this study. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. Semi-structured interviews was the main qualitative data collection approach. It was found that in order to prevent students from alienation from the school community, we should provide a sense of “belonging” to them. Implementing school mediation programs and other cultural activities minimize school dropouts. Dropout can be prevented if students fill a questionnaire which finds the motives that drive their behaviors in two different conditions — when things are going well and when they face conflict. The school should find ways to activate students.
