The institution of the role of the Teacher Advisor of the program “A New Beginning for EPAL – MNAE”: Privileged development space or another task for teachers?

The institution of the role of the Teacher Advisor of the program "A New Beginning for EPAL - MNAE ” is universally applied in EPAL from the school year 2018-2019, while the participation of teachers in the institution is voluntary. How do teachers evaluate the institution in relation to the benefits it can offer to students, to the school unit and to themselves? Is this an additional task or a privileged development space? In the research conducted in March 2020, 94 teachers participated, who work in EPAL of the East Macedonia and Thrace region. Most of them consider that the institution can contribute to the prevention of delinquent behaviors and to the change of school’s culture. However, whether they implement the institution or not, they express their reservations and insecurity, because they have no training in counseling techniques and they are already in charge of several extracurricular activities.
