Transforming Offshore Asset Integrity: The Future of Autonomous Marine Intervention

Abstract The offshore industry is rapidly evolving towards automation and digitalization to enhance safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability. Traditional offshore inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) operations heavily rely on diving support vessels (DSVs) and human intervention, exposing personnel to hazardous environments and incurring high operational costs. This paper presents the successful deployment of the Safeen Green platform—an Autonomous Marine Intervention Platform (AMIP)—which is revolutionizing offshore IMR activities through the integration of Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). By leveraging robotics, Artificial Inelegance (AI)-driven navigation, and real-time data transmission, the Safeen Green platform significantly reduces human exposure to offshore risks while optimizing asset integrity management. ADNOC OFFSHORE is actively working towards integrating these autonomous solutions into its offshore operations as part of its long-term digitalization strategy. The company aims to gradually reduce reliance on diving support vessels and human resources by 2029, with a strategic target to achieve fully autonomous offshore inspection operations by 2028. Field trials of the Safeen Green platform have already demonstrated a 30% reduction in operational costs, enhanced data accuracy, and a significant decrease in carbon emissions, aligning with ADNOC's commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. This paper will explore the platform's design, deployment methodology, operational results, and ADNOC's roadmap for full-scale adoption. As offshore operations transition towards increased autonomy, the Safeen Green platform represents a groundbreaking shift in how offshore assets are inspected and maintained, paving the way for a safer, more cost-effective, and sustainable future in offshore integrity management.
