Scaling Sustainable Travel in Offshore Energy: A Roadmap to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Adoption
This manuscript explores how Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) can reduce carbon emissions from offshore energy air travel. It provides a practical roadmap for integrating SAF into crew rotations and executive travel, leveraging insights from the ATPI Halo-Neste partnership. The focus is on addressing industry challenges and aligning with decarbonisation goals. As offshore energy companies face increasing pressure to decarbonise operations and demonstrate real progress towards net-zero targets, travel is often overlooked. Yet aviation accounts for a significant share of emissions in this sector, particularly when moving highly specialised workforces to and from remote rigs and platforms. With global SAF production scaling and digital solutions emerging to track and validate emissions reductions, we are at a turning point. ATPI Halo, in partnership with Neste, is working to make sustainable travel a practical reality for the offshore industry. We believe it's vital to understand not only the "what" of SAF, but also the "why". Why it matters so deeply in the context of offshore energy, where aviation plays a unique and unavoidable role in keeping operations running.
