Single centre approach to management of ileo-anal J pouch in multi-visceral transplant recipients
Background: Intra-abdominal desmoid tumours, which commonly occur in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), can have devastating clinical consequences including fistulation, obstruction, vascular invasion as well as invasion of the abdominal wall and/or retroperitoneum. FAP patients undergoing MVT for complications of desmoid tumours have often undergone extensive prophylactic colorectal surgery which may include the formation of an ileo-anal pouch. For patients with a pouch, different approaches have been described regarding the management the of pouch following SMA ligation at the time of transplant.
