Characterising height and BMI of bowel transplant recipients through adolescence into adulthood
Background: Growth occurs in two phases: infancy, driven solely by nutrition and puberty, additionally influenced by hormones (Cole 2012). Bowel transplants recipients receive intensive nutritional support throughout transplant. Poor height is associated with inadequate weight gain and is a late marker of chronic malnutrition (Baker et al 2007). In 2012 RCPCH launched new growth charts including mid parental and adult height predictor enabling identification of growth concerns.
