PEDIATRIC INTESTINAL REHABILITATION: IS THERE A ROOM FOR MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY?
the 18 years' experience in managing SBS-IF at a single center. Methods: From February 2006-June 2024 a retrospective analysis was performed.IF patients (pts) were divided into 2 groups (A adults and P pediatrics) and SBS-IF patients were analyzed, including anatomy type at evaluation and after autologous GI reconstruction surgery (AGIRS), treatment with aGLP2, intestinal containing graft transplant requirement, freedom from PN and overall 18 year patient survival. Results: 486 pts had IF; from them 312 had SBS: 198 in group A, and 114 in group P.In group A: AGIRS was performed in 119 pts (Table1).Intestinal sufficiency (IS) was achieved in 72.3% (12.8% after using aGLP2).The overall survival was 71.7%.ITx was performed in 8.2%, their overall pt.survival was 29.0%.In group P: AGIRS was performed in 18 pts (Table 1) IS was achieved in 29% (24% after using aGLP2).The overall 18 years pt survival was 55%.ITx was performed in 22%, their overall pt survival was 40.3%.Conclusions: The majority of pts with IF treated in our program had SBS.The introduction of aGLP2 improved the outcome of SBS patients after AGIRS, increasing the achievement of IS, even in pts with unfavorable anatomy.ITx was mainly required in the P population.
