Evaluation of a digital health app for home monitoring in short bowel syndrome with parenteral nutrition: Effects on compliance & empowerment
assessments during their routine outpatient appointments.A SARC-F score 4 indicated potential risk for sarcopenia, and TUG 12 seconds indicated a high risk of falls.Statistical analyses were conducted to assess correlations and differences between measurements. The study was approved as a service evaluation (reference: 24HIP01).Results: Forty-one patients took part in this study conducted over 12 weeks. The mean age was 58.417.4years, with 21 (51.2%)male participants.24 (58.5%)patients had a TUG 12 seconds, and 10 (24.39%) had a SARC-F 4.SARC-F was significantly correlated with CFS (r s =0.57, p<0.001) and grip strength (r s =-0.351,p=0.02).TUG was significantly correlated with Phase Angle (PA) (r s =-0.46, p<0.001) and CFS (r s =0.63,p<0.001).SARC-F and TUG were significantly correlated (r s =0.663, p<0.001) with each other.Following correlation analyses, patients were split into high and low SARC-F (4 vs <4) and TUG (12 vs <12) groups.Comparisons between groups revealed significant differences between CFS (p=0.005,0.001) and PA (p=0.03,0.02) for SARC-F and TUG groups, respectively. Conclusions: Our study shows SARC-F correlates more with anthropometric measures and TUG with BIA measurements, suggesting both are useful for sarcopenia assessment in T3IF.
