The positive effect of using a remote monitoring platform to promote a supportive home parenteral nutrition (HPN) discharge pathway
Background: HPN is a lifesaving therapy, however patients will face complex technological nutrition support issues, impacting on personal life and anxiety experiences. Depending upon the patients pathway, HPN may not have been welcomed, and in turn consciously or unconsciously may encourage the HPN to fail; promoting vicious cycles of mistrust, hyper vigilance and anxiety. In this case study, the HPN discharge was initially fraught with perceived concerns and complaints, mainly centred around the PN infusion pump.
