COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN STATIC COLD STORAGE, NORMOTHERMIC PERFUSION AND HYPOTHERMIC OXYGENATED PERFUSION IN EXPERIMENTAL INTESTINAL TRANSPLANTATION

Background: Ex situ perfusion systems are expected to replace static cold storage (SCS) in organ transplantation. These devices have demonstrated an important role for organ assessment, optimization and to extend preservation time in liver, kidney or lung transplantation. However, the well-known vulnerability of the intestine has led to their exclusion for intestinal transplantation (IT).We present a comparative study between SCS, normothermic perfusion (NP) and hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) in an experimental model of IT.

Abstract

Background: Ex situ perfusion systems are expected to replace static cold storage (SCS) in organ transplantation. These devices have demonstrated an important role for organ assessment, optimization and to extend preservation time in liver, kidney or lung transplantation. However, the well-known vulnerability of the intestine has led to their exclusion for intestinal transplantation (IT).We present a comparative study between SCS, normothermic perfusion (NP) and hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) in an experimental model of IT.
