The National Intestinal Failure and Rehabilitation Service (NIFRS): 10 years of experience in New Zealand
weaned in median 21(10-70) days, six were successfully discharged home with the device before undergoing reversal surgery with a median time at home of 240(120-330) days.Following CRT, seven underwent successful fistula closure surgery with one patient remaining long-term at home on CRT.CRT could not be initiated in two with frequent stoma bag leaks and one whose distal lumen could not be intubated. Conclusions: CRT using The Insides System was successfully initiated in 8/11 EAF patients, leading to PN cessation and discharge home for most.Bag security and anatomical abnormalities present challenges.CRT shows promise in simplifying management of EAF patients, reducing PN requirements and allowing discharge before reconstructive surgery.
