The causes of cannibalism in a modern pig farm

Cannibalism as a separate type of injury in pig breeding complexes. The main cause of cannibalism is considered to be a stressful state of the body, when the metabolism is working at its maximum capacity, followed by depletion of the body’s resources. Most often, there is a relationship with poor conditions of detention, dietary disorders and stressful situations, in addition, the presence of concomitant viral diseases also affects the incidence of cases of cannibalism. The relationship between the frequency of cannibalism and the weight, age and sex of animals has also been established. Cannibalism can be distinguished as a separate type of injury that deserves the closest attention, since this phenomenon causes traumatic damage to the skin and further contamination of wound surfaces with the occurrence of concomitant diseases. The use of the HealthEar supplement in the process of rearing pigs at the stages of rearing and fattening contributed to a decrease in the level of aggression among pigs and, as a result, a decrease in injury cases, an improvement in productive performance, and a reduction in the period of fattening.
