Failure modes and mechanisms of floating offshore wind turbine support structures
As a core component of deep-sea offshore wind power development, the support structure of floating offshore wind turbines plays a decisive role in ensuring the stable operation of the entire system. This study systematically analyzes the typical f ailure modes of floating offshore wind turbine support structures (including towers and floating platforms) in complex marine environments. Key failure forms of the tower are identified, including flange gap formation with bolt loosening, fracture of high-strength bolts, and buckling instability. Typical failure modes of the floating platform encompass structural strength failure, stability failure, and mooring system failure. For these different failure modes, this study further proposes targeted preventive measures aimed at enhancing the safety and reliability of floating offshore wind turbine support structures.
