AI-enabled energy management device for sustainable QoL
The rapid evolution of energy demands, aligned with environmental considerations, is driving a shift in energy systems, focusing on renewable energy, grid integration, and efficiency. Key to this transition is the role of innovative technologies, encompassing artificial intelligence (AI), including machine learning (ML), expert systems (ES), deep learning (DL), and the onset of blockchain studies in the energy sector. This paper provides a framework for developing an AI-enabled energy management device (AI-EEMD) for a sustainable quality of life (QoL). This device harnesses AI to enhance energy efficiency, using real-time human activities within buildings as decision-making inputs. The AI-EEMD communicates with utility-owned demand-side management (DSMs) during off-peak times, addressing the challenge of peak-to-average ratio (PAR) in smart grid systems. In tandem, advanced data solutions through smart meters and a modified prosumer "small-scale" virtual power plant (VPP) concept broaden the device's capabilities. This enables integrating distributed energy resources such as photovoltaics, batteries, and electric vehicles, amplifying renewable energy capacity. Smart thermostats, lighting, and other building systems communicate with the AI-EEMD, ensuring a holistic strategy. Combined, the AI-driven AI-EEMD, advanced data solutions, and blockchain studies herald a future of energy systems that are not only efficient but also transparent and resilient.
