Working With Pain 5: Limited Alternatives?
This is the fifth in a six-part series exploring diverse approaches to managing pain in labour. In this instalment, we critically examine the evolving landscape of complementary therapies (CTs) within midwifery practice and consider the implications of their potential restriction. Mindful that birthing women and people turn to CTs for relaxation and the so-called minor disorders of pregnancy, midwives need an awareness to provide credible information and guidance. We suggest an acceptance for CTs as has been the case in other clinical fields, with concomitant support and training for midwives.
