Metastatic Breast Carcinoma masquerading as Bilateral Vestibular Schwannomas: A rare diagnostic challenge
This case report examines a 58-year-old woman with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss and vestibular symptoms, initially diagnosed with presumed bilateral vestibular schwannomas (VS) and neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) based on MRI findings. Surgical resection and histopathological analysis later revealed metastatic breast carcinoma. This case underscores the diagnostic complexity of bilateral internal auditory canal lesions, highlights the importance of a thorough differential diagnosis, and emphasizes the role of patient history in guiding management. Functional cochlear implantation significantly improved the patient's quality of life despite the underlying malignancy.
