DESIGN OF 4-BIT FULL ADDER AND OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUES FOR LOW POWER

The design of a 4-bit full adder is an essential component in various digital systems, including arithmetic logic units (ALUs), digital signal processing (DSP), and microprocessors.Full adders perform the basic operation of binary addition, which is crucial for these systems. However, as digital devices continue to shrink in size and power consumption becomes a more significant concern, optimizing the design of a 4bit full adder to minimize power consumption while maintaining high speed and accuracy is critical. This paper presents a detailed design of a 4-bit full adder and explores various optimization techniques to reduce its power consumption.Several optimization methods are implemented, including the use of low-power CMOS logic, carry-lookahead adders, and transmission gate-based full adders, as well as strategies such as voltage scaling, clock gating, and the use of multiple threshold voltages. The impact of these techniques on the power, delay, and area of the design is analyzed using simulation tools. The results show that employing these optimization techniques leads to a significant reduction in power consumption, with some designs achieving up to 70% lower power compared to conventional designs.Additionally, the proposed methods maintain the operational speed and accuracy required for high-performance digital Design of 4-bit Full Adder and Optimization Techniques for Low Power https://iaeme.com/Home/journal/IJECET 61
