This article analyzes the challenges and coping strategies in the schooling process of students who are the Target Audience of Special Education (PAEE) in rural areas during the suspension of in-person classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study was conducted in a rural school located in Corumbá-MS, Brazil. The research participants included the school principal, the Specialized Educational Assistance (AEE) teacher, the educational support teacher, the classroom teacher, the PAEE student, and their guardian. The interviews addressed the development of classes and AEE during emergency remote learning. The collected data were organized and analyzed based on Content Analysis. The results indicated that PAEE students were limited to accessing printed activities due to the lack of internet availability, in addition to the difficulties faced by guardians in monitoring and assisting them throughout the educational process.
