Parameter Management for Automotive - ECU Configuration via Software Product Line Engineering

The software of modern vehicles is configured via parameters in order to meet individual customer preferences and vehicle-specific requirements. However, the parameterization processes currently in use have evolved historically and no longer meet the demands of Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) and current regulatory requirements. As a result, significant challenges arise with respect to traceability, adaptability and efficiency. The Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) framework offers fundamentally suitable methodical approaches to address these challenges. However, the SPLE framework must be adapted and extended for the specific use case of calibration parameters e.g. the temporal control and versioning. The objective is therefore to develop an extended framework and to implement it in combination with a revised parameterization method. The practical applicability of the developed approach will be evaluated through two case studies at Volkswagen AG.
