The State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe (SMNK) holds a specimen of a pearl oyster Pinctada cf. margaritifera (Linnaeus, 1758) preserved in ethanol with a pearl still attached to the mantle. This specimen was looted from a Jewish household and handed over by the police president of Karlsruhe to the Natural History Museum in October 1941. Additional information on the specimen that might facilitate its restitution to the original owners or their descendants are lacking. Therefore, the few data available was uploaded to the Lost Art Database in the hope of finding its rightful owners.
