RELEVANCE OF RESEARCH ON INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR DETECTING DEFECTS IN FLAT ROOFS

Relevance. The war in Ukraine has led to numerous destructions, particularly in the Dnipropetrovsk region, making the use of robotic technologies for inspecting damaged buildings, especially roofs, an important and urgent task. The falling debris from rockets and “Shahed 136” drones, accompanied by widespread destruction, increases the need for prompt and accurate methods for assessing damage, particularly to roofs. The application of robotic technology equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) and thermal imaging cameras for diagnosing roof defects is one of the most promising approaches. These technologies allow for the detection of hidden defects and problems with minimal impact on the operation of buildings, which is especially important in the context of post-war reconstruction. The rapid assessment of roof conditions is essential for the effective management of repair works and ensuring the long-term durability of infrastructure in the aftermath of the war. Objective. The aim of the article is to justify the effectiveness of using robotic technology with AI for roof inspections, specifically for detecting defects and damage to roofs, and to determine the economic feasibility and technical potential of such technologies in modern construction and the restoration of damaged buildings. The article examines how these technologies can contribute to faster, safer, and more cost-effective inspections. Additionally, it discusses the possibilities of implementing this technology in the context of post-war infrastructure recovery in Ukraine, particularly in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where extensive damage has been reported. The findings are also relevant for adapting global experience to Ukrainian conditions and preparing the necessary regulatory framework for widespread adoption of these technologies in the restoration efforts. Conclusions. The use of robotic technology with thermal imaging and AI is an economically beneficial, technically efficient, and safe method for roof diagnostics. The application of this technology allows for significant reductions in inspection time and costs, minimizes human risks, and ensures high diagnostic accuracy. The technology enables timely detection of hidden defects such as moisture under the covering, leaks, loss of insulation, and mechanical damage to roofing materials, which significantly reduces the likelihood of costly repairs. In the context of Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, these technologies have the potential to become the standard for fast and safe assessments of damaged buildings. The research is necessary for adapting global experience to Ukrainian conditions and for developing a regulatory framework that supports the use of such innovative technologies in construction and repair.
