Electrospun Polyacrylonitrile–Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (PAN–ABS) Nanofibers Decorated With Copper Oxide Nanoparticles: A Highly Effective Sorbent for Fuel Desulfurization

Electrospun nanofibers have emerged as a promising material for environmental remediation due to their high surface area‐to‐volume ratio, high porosity, and mechanical properties. In this study, the potential of electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) nanofibers decorated with copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) was studied as dibenzothiophene (DBT) adsorptive from gasoline. The synthesized material was characterized physiochemically using XRD, FTIR, SEM, and BET. The results showed the successful decoration of CuO NPs on mixed PAN–ABS nanofibers, which exhibited high adsorption capacity for DBT. The maximum adsorption capacity of the synthesized sorbent was found to be 29.6 mg S/g. The synthesized sorbent showed high selectivity for DBT and could effectively remove it from gasoline. Overall, the results demonstrate the potential of electrospun nanofibers as a highly effective and selective sorbent for fuel desulfurization, offering a promising solution to environmental pollution caused by transportation fuels.

Overall, the results demonstrate the potential of electrospun nanofibers as a highly effective and selective sorbent for fuel desulfurization, offering a promising solution to environmental pollution caused by transportation fuels.
