An Uncommon Cause of Adverse Fetal Outcome: Giant Placental Chorioangioma

The most frequent cause of fetal growth restriction (FGR) is chronic placental insufficiency.Placental teratoma, massive chorioangioma and partial mole are uncommon placental causes that impact fetal fate.Chorioangioma, also known as placental hemangioma, is a common, nontrophoblastic, benign vascular placental tumor of primitive chorionic mesenchymal origin.Since these tumors are distinct masses made up of several fetal capillaries that are supported by stroma and primarily perfused by fetal circulation, their size is crucial from a therapeutic standpoint since vascularity and size are related to the amount of fetal blood that is transferred to the mass.Complications for both the mother and the fetus are linked to giant chorioangiomas larger than 5 cm.Early diagnosis is aided by imaging techniques. We describe a 19-year-old diabetic primigravida with a placental chorioangioma who went into spontaneous labor and gave birth to a dead baby girl. The diagnosis of placental chorioangioma was aided by the placenta's histological analysis.
