Pregnancy Outcomes in Patients Presenting to a Tertiary Care Unit with WHO Class IV Heart Disease: A Case Series
Physiological cardiac changes in pregnancy enable the mother to handle the increased hemodynamic load and, thus, facilitate fetal growth. However, the diseased heart needs to be treated with utmost caution during pregnancy and peripartum period as it involves increased morbidity and mortality. In this case series, we discuss a myriad of very critical cases that fall under the World Health Organization (WHO) Class IV heart disease, where the mothers have gone on to have thoroughly successful pregnancies and postpartum recovery.
