A Case Report of Pre-infantile Tremor Syndrome Presenting with Wheeze-associated Lower Respiratory Infection
Infantile tremor syndrome (ITS) is a rare but significant clinical condition characterized by tremors, anemia, developmental delay, skin hyperpigmentation, and sparse hair, typically seen in infants and young children between 5 months and 3 years of age.Pre-ITS refers to the early phase of ITS, where all characteristic symptoms of ITS are present except for tremors. It is most commonly seen in developing countries with low socio-economic conditions. There is no exact cause known till date.Numerous etiological factors, including metabolic, nutritional, dietary, and infectious aspects have been proposed. This case report describes an unusual presentation of pre-ITS in an 11-month-old male child who presented with a wheeze-associated lower respiratory infection (LRI).The report highlights the importance of the detection of ITS in the early phase of pre-ITS and thereby, prevent the long-term complications associated with ITS.
