Ensuring Fuel Quality in a Low Carbon Environment Towards Energy Transition

Abstract The energy landscape continues the transition pathway to lower carbon intensity fuel, and in response to the changing fuel requirements. Low Carbon Fuel Standard fuels, LCFS or renewable fuels, have a narrow carbon number distribution and contain a high percentage of paraffin that can make modification of cold flow properties challenging. Refiners must meet the pour point spec to sell renewable diesel with no additive options available. Traditional pour point depressants are not effective in renewable diesels. The additive package addresses the demanding needs posed by hard-to-treat distillates such as renewable diesel by improving the handling properties at low temperatures. It has neither negative impact on quality specifications, additive interactions, nor presents trail back concerns for pipeline transportation. This enabled the customer to capture more than ~$5M in value while also achieving their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals.
