A Case of Maxillary Cancer with a Brain Abscess Caused by Osteonecrosis of the Jaw Following RADPLAT Treatment
We report a case of maxillary cancer, with brain abscess developing as a late complication of radiotherapy and concomitant intra-arterial cisplatin (RADPLAT). A 78-year-old man with squamous cell carcinoma of the right maxillary sinus (cT4aN2bM0, stage IVA) received induction chemotherapy and RADPLAT, followed by partial maxillectomy and neck dissection. After four years, the patient complained of recurrent epistaxis and was diagnosed as having osteonecrosis of the jaw. The necrotic jawbone was dissected and the maxillary arteries were clipped.
