Effects of substituting C for N on pitting corrosion resistance of sensitized lean duplex stainless steel
The effects of C on the pitting corrosion resistance of sensitized duplex stainless steels were investigated. For this, Fe balance -21.3Cr-4.5Mn-1.5Ni-0.3Mo (wt%) alloy containing 0.227 wt% N and the alloy containing 0.161 wt% N and 0.105 wt% C were prepared and aged at 850 °C for 20 min. The C-containing alloy showed better pitting resistance than the alloy containing only N, although it was more sensitized by the aging. The better pitting resistance of C-containing alloy was due to its more protective passive film and improved resistance to general corrosion.
