Importance of Thematic Maps like DEM, Slope, and Drainage Density in Identifying Groundwater Potential and Recharge Zones

Groundwater is a crucial natural resource for drinking water, irrigation, and industrial purposes.Increasing demand and overexploitation necessitate sustainable management practices.Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques provide a reliable framework for identifying groundwater potential and recharge zones. This study emphasizes the importance of thematic maps such as Digital Elevation Model (DEM), slope, and drainage density in groundwater assessment.DEM aids in delineating terrain characteristics, slope governs runoff and infiltration rates, and drainage density reflects subsurface permeability. The integrated analysis of these thematic layers through GIS helps in delineating suitable areas for artificial recharge and sustainable groundwater utilization.
