Diversity of Skills: A Characteristic of the Modern Pharmacist
The diversity of skills required for modern pharmacy practice differ greatly from the traditional skill set once associated with pharmacists. Historically, pharmacists were primarily product-focused, ensuring the correct medication was selected, dispensed, and accessible, while serving as a critical safety check on physician prescriptions. Today, pharmacists still possess these foundational skills, but the evolving care ecosystem demands a broader range of expertise. Modern pharmacists are integral members of multidisciplinary care teams, providing clinical services and bridging systemic gaps to optimize patient-centered medication use. This issue of The Senior Care Pharmacist reflects that diversity of expertise, featuring articles that showcase the unique value pharmacists bring to the health care system in every issue.
