Factors Affecting Utilization of Antenatal Care Services and Maternal Satisfaction at the Central Government Health Scheme Maternity and Child Centre, New Delhi: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Maternity and Child Centre, New Delhi, is the sole maternity facility under CGHS, serving a significant population of CGHS beneficiaries. The center provides antenatal care (ANC), diagnostic services, pediatric care, delivery services, and referrals to higher centers. This study assessed the quality of ANC services, maternal satisfaction, and influencing factors among 120 ANC mothers using a pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire. Results indicated that most ANC services were adequately delivered. However, the absence of a Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) and a blood bank, due to proximity to a Government Tertiary Hospital, and staff shortages in radiology and anesthesiology, posed challenges.Investigative services were rated moderately satisfactory.Despite these issues, most users, predominantly lower-salaried government employees, expressed overall satisfaction.Expanding such centers could alleviate pressure on Tertiary Hospitals and support achieving SDG 3.1 by reducing maternal mortality to below 70 per 1,00,000 live births by 2030.
