Prediction model for energy consumption of kitchen appliances in residential buildings in China and the UK along with a comparative analysis
The household energy consumption can be effectively reduced through the economical usage of kitchen appliances. This study analyses the energy consumption of household kitchens in China and the United Kingdom. A week-long survey was conducted on the actual energy consumption data of kitchen appliances in three and six households in China and the UK, respectively, and a prediction model was established for kitchen appliance energy consumption. The BP neural network algorithm and GP regression algorithm are used to establish this prediction model. A comparison between these algorithms demonstrates that the GP regression algorithm presents a higher accuracy. The following conclusions were drawn from this model: (1) The main cause of energy wastage in the kitchens in China is the excessive usage of electrical appliances. (2) The main cause of energy wastage in the UK kitchens is ageing appliances. (3) The difference in the kitchen energy consumption between China and the UK is attributed to behaviour differences. The findings of this study present a theoretical basis for energy usage in the domestic kitchens of China and the UK, and also present a reference for similar studies in other countries and regions.
