Continuous Natural Fiber‐Reinforced Polymer Composites ( <scp>CNFRPCs</scp> ) Manufacturing: Additive Manufacturing Pathways to a Sustainable Future—A Critical Review

ABSTRACT In recent years, due to growing environmental awareness, there has been a significant increase in the exploration of renewable materials, especially continuous natural fiber‐reinforced polymer composites. Advances in both traditional and additive manufacturing methods have placed greater emphasis on continuous natural fiber‐reinforced composites (CNFRPCs). The use of additive manufacturing for CNFRPCs, is a relatively new approach in the field. This approach combines the advantages of natural fibers with the flexibility and precision of additive manufacturing, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional manufacturing methods. CNFRPCs could be fashioned into complex, low‐cost yet high‐performing composite structures. The development of various continuous fiber fabrication techniques has enabled the creation of intricate structural designs and advanced materials. This study reviews different types of continuous natural fibers and fabrication techniques for CNFRPCs, while also discussing their limitations and future challenges. The aim of this review is to offer insights into potential future research directions for CNFRPCs such as sisal, banana, coir, and water hyacinth, covering design, manufacturing, failure prediction, and applications.
