Relationship Between Serum Micro-Rna 192 And 29c And Kidney Disease In Subjects With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Background Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a frequent and serious complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aimed to assess the relationship between micro- RNA (miRNA)-192 and miRNA-29c expression and DKD in patients with T2DM. Patients and methods A case-control study was conducted with 160 participants: 40 T2DM patients with DKD, 40 T2DM patients without DKD, and 80 healthy controls. Plasma levels of miRNA-192 and miRNA-29c were quantified using quantitative reverse transcription PCR. Diagnostic accuracy was assessed via ROC curve analysis. Multivariate logistic regression identified predictors of DKD. Results Micro RNA-192 expression was significantly elevated while miRNA-29c expression was reduced in DKD patients. Multivariate regression analysis confirmed miRNA-192 as a positive predictor (OR = 3.19, p = 0.009) and miRNA-29c as negative predictor (OR = 0.04, p= 0.004) of DKD. The ROC curve analysis revealed that miRNA-192 had an AUC of 0.79 (65% sensitivity, 92.5% specificity), and miRNA-29c had an AUC of 0.71 (95% sensitivity, 57.5% specificity). Conclusion Both miRNA-192 and miRNA-29c show promise as biomarkers for DKD detection in patients with T2DM.
