A scoping review of the literature on the concept and application of meditation coaching in Korea

This study aimed to examine domestic research trends on “meditation coaching,” an integrative approach combining meditation and coaching, through a scoping review. Twelve relevant studies published between 2000 and 2024 were selected and analyzed based on the framework of Arksey and O’Malley (2005) and PRISMA-ScR guidelines. The analysis revealed that meditation coaching research in South Korea remains at an early stage, with limited theoretical development and continuity. While some studies proposed integrated definitions and models, most focused on combining meditation and coaching techniques without a unified framework. Meditation emphasized sensory awareness and emotional acceptance, while coaching focused on goal setting and execution—highlighting their complementary roles. The selected studiesreported positive effects such as emotional regulation, self-reflection, and improved implementation skills in educational, organizational, and counseling contexts. However, limitations were found in terms of participant diversity, methodological range, and a lack of digital-based research. This study highlights the need for theoretical integration, the development of tailored programs, the application of mixed methods, and the creation of practice models utilizing digital technologies. These findings provide a foundational reference for advancing meditation coaching research in Korea.
