A Study on Breast Feeding Knowledge, Attitude and Practice among Mothers of Premature Babies

The purpose of this study was to investigate mothers of premature babies who had experienced hospitalization at K General Hospital located in G city. The data collection was conducted from August 26 to September 25, 2022, to find out the correlation among their breastfeeding knowledge, breastfeeding attitude, and breastfeeding practice.A total of 118 mothers were included in the survey, and correlations among them were analyzed.Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, and Pearson's correlation coefficients using SPSS program. The results of the study can be summarized as follows.Breastfeeding knowledge score was 5.93(1.68),breastfeeding attitude score was 3.54(1.68),and breastfeeding practice rate for more than 12 months was 9.3%.Among the factors related to the general characteristics of mothers of premature babies, age and determinants of breastfeeding significantly affected breastfeeding knowledge, and age significantly affected breastfeeding attitude.Breastfeeding knowledge had a significant positive correlation with breastfeeding attitude (r=.311, p<.001), and breastfeeding practice had a significant positive correlation with breastfeeding attitude (r=.179, p =.049).This study provides basic data to help preterm mothers develop a positive attitude toward breastfeeding practice through the development of a breastfeeding nursing intervention program.
