Trend Analysis of CiteSpace-based Research on Integration of Embodied Cognition and Interaction Design

In recent years, the integration of embodied cognition and interaction design has emerged as a promising interdisciplinary field, offering new insights into user behavior, cognitive engagement, and human-technology interaction. However, existing studies tend to focus on theoretical discussions or specific applications, lacking a data-driven overview of key themes and collaboration networks. This study employs CiteSpace for bibliometric analysis of 298 articles published between 2010 and 2023, using 'embodied cognition' AND 'interaction design'.The methodology includes keyword cooccurrence, cluster analysis, burst detection, and collaborative network visualization to identify 14 major research themes and four evolutionary stages: theoretical foundation, applied interaction behavior, technology-driven development, and return to natural interaction.Emerging hotspots include full-body interaction, cognitive load, and the increasing impact of virtual reality, particularly after 2022.Additionally, the study maps global patterns of institutional and national collaboration, revealing the leadership of institutions such as the University of California System and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The novelty of this research lies in its integrated visualization of both intellectual structure and temporal development in this domain.Practical implications include strategies for reducing users' cognitive load, enhancing emotional resonance through affective design, and applying principles of embodied cognition in immersive education, healthcare, and digital environments. The study concludes with policy-oriented recommendations to encourage interdisciplinary research platforms, standardize design evaluation frameworks, and promote culturally inclusive interaction systems. These findings offer valuable guidance for researchers, designers, and policymakers seeking to advance user-centered innovation in complex digital environments.
