Exploring the Applicability of Yin-yang and Five Elements Constitution Theory to Beauty and Health Contents: Using Scoping Review

This study explores the applicability of the Yin-Yang and Five Elements (Yin-Yang Wuxing) constitution theory to the design of Beauty & Health content, employing a five-stage scoping review methodology proposed by Arksey and O'Malley (2005) and further elaborated by Levac et al. (2010).A total of 25 Korean academic publications from 1998 to 2024 were selected and analyzed based on research domains, theoretical frameworks, analytical tools, and applied contexts. The findings highlight three key implications: First, the Five Elements theory serves as a foundational model for analyzing internal organ functions and skin health diagnostics, with the Sangsaeng-Sanggeuk principles being used in the development of personalized treatment protocols and content generation algorithms.Second, the classification of the Eight Constitutions and analysis using the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (Cheongan-Jiji) have been effectively integrated into AI-based constitution identification systems, facilitating smart beauty content tailored to individual physiology and emotional profiles.Third, these theoretical principles demonstrate significant potential in digital healthcare, smart beauty platforms, and emotion-responsive healing applications.By proposing a constitution-centered framework, this study offers valuable theoretical guidance and strategic direction for integrating traditional East Asian medicine principles with modern beauty and wellness technologies. It also serves as a scholarly foundation for future convergence research in the field.
