Complex of findings from the modern period from the settlement of Ufa-II
The paper introduces into scientific circulation the materials of archaeological excavations of 2023 from the Ufa-II settlement, related to the New Age. The monument, located in the center of the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan, is currently the most studied multi-layered archaeological site of the Southern Urals, containing artifacts from the early Middle Ages to the ethnographic present. In the 77 sq.m. excavation at the southwestern end of the site, 1,353 artifacts were discovered, including 566 fragments of pottery and 25 individual items from the New Age. An interesting finding is the handle of a wooden toothbrush dating from the 19th – early 20th centuries. Important dating findings include coins from the Soviet and pre-revolutionary periods, a pectoral cross, a harness bell, glass inkwells, bottles and flasks with stamps. In this article, for the first time since the beginning of large-scale excavations at the site in 2006, an analysis and classification of ceramic material from the 18th – early 20th centuries is given, as well as a description of individual findings obtained during the excavations in 2023. The pottery of reducing and oxidizing firing was considered separately, which is associated with different stages of their existence and the development of pottery in Ufa. The studied fragments of pottery belong to such types typical of the 18th – early 20th centuries as latki (pottery in the form of a bowl with higher walls), bowls, jugs, pots with lids, large earthenware pots, jugs with a characteristic spout or with a preserved handle, as well as flattened plates. However, pots and their larger version – earthenware pots, as well as jugs – predominate quantitatively.
